Episode 32: 10 Ways to Educate During Doula Awareness Month

Your job during Doula Awareness Month: Educate. Yes, even if you’re not a Childbirth Educator.

Why? Because people don’t invest in things that they don’t understand.

Doulas - we have a job this month, and always - to educate the general population about doula support.

When you educate people - they rise, they become aware, empowered, and gather enough information to make a decision.

Think deeper than “provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to a mother before, during and shortly after childbirth.”

Here are 10 ways that you can educate during Doula Awareness Month:

  1. Journal prompt: If you could go back a few years (or more), what would you tell yourself about doulas?

  2. When you create content (written, video or whatever), how can you paint the picture?

  3. What can you share / teach about the history of birth support?

  4. What are other areas of your life where your potential clients might have sought support? Speak to these.

  5. Explain the difference between midwives & doulas.

  6. Ask any past clients if they’d like to share their birth story - via blog / video / whatever they’re comfortable with.

  7. Share your own birth story - explaining the role of doula support.

  8. Use doula statistics in a creative way to educate beyond the numbers.

  9. Talk about the transition period we’re all in right now, and how virtual doula support bridges the gap.

  10. What are the ways that you’ve received virtual support and found it helpful? Speak to your experience and relate to where they're at.
