Episode 128 transcript:

Speaker 1: (00:03)

Hello and welcome back. So if you listen to last week's episode and you are pumped up and ready to reassess your 20, 22 goals, or you're going to be starting your new year with a different option, I presented several options at the end of last week's episode. There's an important piece. That's pretty foundational that I wanna share with you in this episode. And I'm gonna start by giving a little bit of background. So in business school, many of you know that I went to USF university of south Florida, and I got my degree undergrad in finance. And so in business school, we were taught how to make a business plan. And that was some of our projects was making business plans for new businesses. And when you make a business plan on a new business, at least traditionally, it was based on we loads of market research.

Speaker 1: (01:07)

You would look for comparable businesses in the industry that are public, have public financials available and you'd assess their financial performance. So you'd collect this data and then make totally arbitrary estimates based on what you think your business might, or this business that you're creating the business plan for how it might perform. And so it was really tricky for me as a college student to put together this type of traditional business plan back then, I really liked certainty. I liked the numbers that added up cleanly. I didn't like this arbitrary thing. I liked clear answers, black and white. I needed my comfort zone with certainty, and yes, this is correct or no, this is not. So the version of me today, given my evolution and, you know, stepping into the birth world and having babies and then getting into energy centered business coaching, which is really, I feel like where I'm at, um, energy centered and healing business mentorship.

Speaker 1: (02:29)

I feel more comfortable in array areas, but for different reasons. And so today the version of me now, the way that I make a business plan isn't with strategy first, I don't start with a strategy and I don't start with looking at other companies to figure out what they did and look at their performance to gauge what I think my company or this company could do. So if you're looking at 20, 22, the rest of your year or however, you're looking to reassess your goals is what we're really talking about here, your business plan, your goals, your goal setting. It's not starting with strategy.

Speaker 1: (03:15)

It's starting with the energetics. And I wanna let you know too, that the first time somebody said the word energy to me regarding business, I looked like deer in the head with deer in the headlights. You know, my eyes just got really big. And I was like, what are you talking about ahead? It sounded like another language. And it took multiple of conversations. Re-listening to audio books over and over and over again, listening to certain podcasts over and over and over again, listening to courses that I've bought from several different mentors over the last few years. I repeat and listen to those courses, time and time again. And every time I listen to things like that, and I'm very intentional with this content I'm consuming, I'm learning at a deeper level, what energy is in business. And also now I've taken that to the next step with my work in, um, the energy healing, modality expansion principle.

Speaker 1: (04:18)

And I bring that into my business and my client's business. Right? So I'm sharing that because I don't want you to feel like you have to know everything about energy and business to get something from this podcast and to learn, and to start that learning, let this be an activation, a little mini activation and just let it, it be a seed that sits with you and continues to open you up to potential in learning more about energetics and business. Over time, we could spend weeks and months discussing energy in your business, and we will, and especially in the free event that's coming up in may. So if you haven't heard, make sure you click the link in the show notes because there is a free event coming up called energetic business foundation. It's May 10th, 11th, and 12th. So the application link is in the show notes, but for today, I think it will be helpful to walk through an example that can help you begin to anchor in the concept very introductory level.

Speaker 1: (05:32)

But I think it's a really good example. And it's been sitting with me for a few, several weeks now that I've been working on, um, different ways I can explain energetics and business. And so I hope you really like the us example also as part of my past life and some background and not like past lives, but this current life, but like my past life and careers. So, you know, I was in corporate real estate finance and around 2009, the company I was working for managed a real estate fund and the fund owned a piece of land in Hawaii. So it was 7,000 acres of raw land in Hawaii. And the plan was to put a high end luxury development on this piece of land. And if you were familiar with real estate stuff back in oh 7 0 8 0 9 0 8 ish is around when things just really tanked.

Speaker 1: (06:36)

So the plans for land in Hawaii were kind of tanking. And we were more on a monitoring phase through the very hard time that real estate had. However, I did get to go visit the property in 2009. Yes, I think I went in 2009. I went for a site visit with my boss and , it was incredible. We took a helicopter, which I was like green, green, green in the face on this helicopter ride. It's not my jam, but the view was amazing. And the interesting thing about raw land when you're planning to build is that you can't just jump in and start building how houses, if you are strategizing how you're gonna build this house and you start there, that's not going to work very well. So before you start with hammer and whatever other, you know, big tools they use to build houses, you need a solid foundation. You need drawings, you need plans. You need to prep the land. When you have raw land, it needs to be prepped for utilities. You need to clear the debris, meaning the trees and get into the earth and run the appropriate utility lines for electricity, for, uh, water, that kind of thing. And you need to do all of this before you even lay the solid foundation.

Speaker 1: (08:23)

And so you can think of this through the lens of strategizing in your business. If you open to, to your business and jump in and start making a business plan or reassessing the remainder of your year, your plans, your goals, or your strategizing, but you haven't done the clearing work, the foundational work, right? If you haven't cleared the land and the debris and prepared the land, which is the energetics of your business, then your strategy, or in our example of the home building homes, your structure, it might not really hold up very well. It might not really be as effective.

Speaker 1: (09:18)

And so what that might look like if you're starting your business, or you've recently, right, even in the last few years, if you started a business and you jumped right into, okay, I need a logo, I need a website. I need an Instagram page, you know, and you started putting together these strategy pieces, these structural pieces, but you haven't yet done the energetic foundation work. Then the website might not be that effective. And I know this because I've done this. I walked that path. That was my journey in starting in business. I didn't do a whole lot of this foundational work in the beginning. I actually hard did any of it. I thought I knew what I wanted to do. And I jumped right into what I thought we needed to run a successful business, which was like a website and a logo and a brand kit. And you know, all of these things that they say you need when you're starting an online business. And not that those things aren't helpful, they are helpful. And I love a good brand kit. Don't get me wrong. You know, I love a good website. I love a connecting website. However, if the foundation is missing, it's gonna be pretty tricky for your website to connect with your people. And your branding is not gonna be all that helpful. You, you have not built energetic business foundation.

Speaker 1: (10:53)

So all of this to say, I hope you really like my examples by the way. But all of this to say, I invite you to the energetic business foundation three day live on zoom free pro Graham May 10th, 11th, and 12th, where we are going to go deeper into the energetics of your business foundation and help you start building.
